Linksys Network Storage System NAS200

Linksys was lange tijd een van de opvallende afwezigen in de markt van NAS-apparaten. De verwachtingen waren dan ook hoog gespannen voor de NAS200, die men enige tijd geleden aankondigde. Dit apparaat met de bekende, en wat zakelijke Linksys-vormgeving ,biedt ruimte voor twee SATA-schijven en lijkt op het eerste oog veel leuke mogelijkheden te bezitten: een Multimedia-server, een FTP-server en zelfs een download-server is beschikbaar.

Handige functies en de prijs van slechts € 159 is mooi meegenomen. Maar toch gaat bij ons de vlag niet helemaal uit. De prestaties van de Linksys vallen namelijk flink tegen. We halen een doorvoer van slechts 4,5 MB/s, en dat terwijl we twee snelle Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 harde schijven hadden ingebouwd. Het is zo langzaam dat we tijdens de test ernstig twijfelen aan onze resultaten en overleggen met Linksys. Een dergelijke score zou toch moeten duiden op een defect apparaat of een foutje in de firmware, maar het overleg met Linksys leert ons dat prestaties niet het sterkste punt zijn van het product, de prijs is dat echter wel.

There are other built-in disk utilities, accessible through your web browser. You can run a self test or scan the disk(s) for errors. If you’ve installed a second disk drive, you can back up one drive to the other, either manually or on a schedule.

For even more flexibility and utility, the Network Storage System can be set up to be accessible directly from the Internet via a web browser or FTP. Files can be available publicly, or create password-protected accounts for your authorized users.
